Abstract

  The challenges to security on the eastern borders of the European Union have become increasingly important on the international political agenda, especially since the Euromaidan Revolution and the subsequent Russian annexation of the Crimea in February-March 2014. The perception of these actions as a possible return to the geopolitical competition of the Cold War has revived the interest in military security issues in our neighborhood shared with Russia; an actor whose expansionist strategy - called in the media with the unspecific term "hybrid war" - would today use instruments as diverse as misinformation, propaganda, cyber espionage, cyber attacks, economic sanctions, energy supply or influence on electoral processes, in addition to open or covert military intervention.
