Abstract

NATO has been perceived mainly as a US organization and, consequently, with a great capacity of influence in Spain since its entry into the Atlantic Alliance. This article analyzes to what extent this stereotype has been fulfilled over the 40 years since Spain's entry in the organisation and how Spain has simultaneously managed and dealt with its Atlantic membership and its bilateral relationship with the US.
