Abstract
Sociological Research Center (CIS, for its acronym in English) Barometers are showing the Armed Forces as one of the best rated institutions by the Spaniards for years. However, the so-called “Awareness of National Defense” could not be too much related with that enhancement of the image of the Armed Forces. This article analyzes how the defense awareness has evolved between the years 2001-2007 and its influence on the following period, relate it to that time events, from the 9/11 attacks to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, which constitute the most informative notorious historical period relative to matters of security and defense in Spain.
