Abstract

Armies are perceptible to changes that occur in societies in which they are established, hence, the revolutionary impact of AI on society may have the same groundbreaking effects on the military. How will AI change the nature of conflict in the future? The objective of this paper is to answer this question framing the effects of AI in one of the three possible impacts it may have in the nature of conflict: a minimal impact, an evolutionary impact or a revolutionary one. In order to determine which is more in line with reality, the introduction of AI into the military world will be examined as a revolution in military affairs (RMA) with the post-modern socio-military revolution (RSM) as backdrop. Technological, doctrinal, and organizational issues around AI will be examined to shed light on its impact on the nature of conflict in the future.
